We believe that there are no shortcuts to skill, especially in the business of preserving one's life. Martial arts schools today rush students through their curriculum, and barely give them enough time to absorb the art--and fine tune the body into a well-honed fighting machine.
In order to defend oneself properly and dominate the opponent, we follow the guidance of our system's founders with the motto, "Hung tao choy mei"--Head of Hung, Tail of Choy. In other words, the strength of a tiger, the mobility of a leopard. The opponent should neither be able to catch you nor evade you; he must not be able to overpower you or withstand your attack. Like the tiger who and his prey--once provoked, the attacker will be powerless when he encounters you.
At Streetfighter Academy, we believe in building the Tiger slowly. Many schools rush students into forms and through the curriculum without giving enough attention to conditioning and actual fighting principles. Often, students will move from one rank to another without having tested their fighting skills. They do not build their physical strength and believe that one can achieve fighting dominance with fighting tactics alone. Unlike those schools, we develop each part of the student's body into a weapon: Strong, but agile footwork; powerful shoulders; strong grip; quick and powerful arms; and conditioned hands that destroy what they hit. Kung Fu is, at its core, a powerful fighting system. Yet very few schools treat it as such. Our mission is to train all of our students for fighting dominance--using traditional and modern methods of reaching that goal.
